Across the district, we have done great work to improve extracurricular activities, academic programming, and atmosphere throughout the three schools and within the community. In just one year, the team has successfully added multiple extracurricular activities and athletics based on student interest and feedback, including an elementary intramural program, boys and girls high school volleyball, middle school track, a cheer/drill team, MS/HS Robotics club, Chess/Gamers Club, to name a few. Interest and participation have been high in all of these activities, and they will continue to be strong in the 2023 - 2024 school year. The district has also placed a substantial amount of attention and effort into evaluating and improving our academic programming on a continual basis, and we are proud of the growth this past year to our gamut of interventions and student services for students PreK-12. Students have more access to speech, reading intervention, math intervention, English Language support, and social-emotional services than they have in the past through increased staff, improved scheduling, and the implementation of an elementary school sensory room. Upperclassmen at the high school also were provided access to courses outside our school walls during the 2022 - 2023 school year using the online Ram-V Learning program opportunity. Along with academics and activities, the district has also emphasized a positive atmosphere in class, around the district campus, and in the community through a variety of culture-building events for students, staff, and families. Along with a district-wide implementation of a positive behavior support system (PBSIS), the district worked early in the 2022 - 2023 school year to upgrade the Ram Fitness Center, facilitated various ongoing beautification and signage projects around the campus, and prioritized positive, constant, and accessible communication for all.

Having so much to celebrate in just one year, it is even more exciting to consider how much more we are planning for the 2023 - 2024 school year on top of sustaining those programs and efforts. First and foremost, we are implementing our first year of RHS Learning Academies for all high school students. These learning academies will help students explore various career pathways, identify post-secondary pursuits of interest, and plan schedules to support those interests with appropriate classes, relevant speakers/visits, and, ultimately internship opportunities. This shift to supporting post-secondary skill exploration has unlocked new opportunities for Riverside, including an expansion of our career and trades opportunities within our course catalog, as we are planning to offer introductory courses in building trades, basic electricity/electronics, technology education, and/or mechanics once a certified staff member is officially hired and onboarded onto the team. Utilizing talent and experience within our staff, Riverside is also very excited to be able to offer a Riverside Cadet Squadron opportunity in conjunction with the NJ Wing of the Civil Air Patrol, which will not only set up learning experiences leading to possible military futures but also careers in various areas of aviation.  As we continue to build out a robust PK-12 program that helps students identify and cultivate their personalized interests and pursuits, we are also continuing to support core academics through cycles of assessment, reflection, and modifications. This year, our efforts to drive growth and achievement will be enhanced with the addition of teacher leaders across the various academic areas and grades who will work with staff, administration, and our Blue Ribbon Committee to facilitate deeper reflection and articulation for improvement. The internal communication and collaboration throughout our staff is only the beginning, as we are also excited to have our new “Dean of Programs and Students” working with the team to, among other things, coordinate and oversee parent programming for the district. Parent communication has been a strong component of our district efforts for the last year or two, but with this new position, Riverside will be able to take that to the next level by offering parent training modules, tutorials, supports, and resources that help parents better understand what is available for their children and therefore make their partnership with the school district more effective and beneficial for all. Finally, while some of our construction will take years to complete, we are excited to see our new track and new field house windows early this year.

I look forward to continuing to work collaboratively with all stakeholders at the Riverside Township Public School District.
On behalf of our staff and the Board of Education, I want to thank you so much for your continued support of our endeavors. Please feel free to contact me for any assistance you may need at 856-461-1255, ext. 1111, or by email at [email protected].
